These photos and videos of the Philippines Marine Life are from a 2 week trip to 2 different resorts in the Philippines. Our base camps for this journey were Ticao Island Resort and Thresher Shark Divers, Philippines. Firstly, we dove from Ticao Island Resort. Here our guide was Jan Esteban. He was a tremendous help in finding all these amazing small creatures. The Ticao Island Resort is right on the beach. In addition, it has a fabulous view of the distant volcano. Also, you will find photos and videos on manta rays, thresher sharks, turtles, nudibranchs, tropical fish, mantis shrimp and much more. Each link below will take you to underwater photography and underwater video of several tropical areas around the Philippines.
Philippines Dive Adventure
On our dive journey to the Philippines, we had two base camps. The first at Ticao Island Resort and the second at Malapascua Island.
The Philippines marine life has a great diversity of habitats (soft sediments, corals, seagrass, etc.). Additionally, the Philippines has more coastlines per unit than any other tropical area on earth. The Philippines is a long-recognized world’s center of marine biodiversity. Also, in these islands, five of the seven sea turtle species known to exist in the world today occur in the Philippines waters. We also found the Philippines is one of the most reliable spots in the world to encounter the gentle giant whale shark.
Ticao Island
Ticao Island is the main diving area of Bicol. Additionally, this Island is surrounded by several dive sites. There you have the choice of big or small. All the dive sites are around Ticao Island. Also, the dive sites are 5 to 45 minutes away from Ticao Island Resort.
Malapascua Island
Some of the creatures that Malapascua is best known for are: Thresher sharks, large rays, whitetip sharks, pygmy seahorses, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, smashing mantis shrimp, pipefish, mandarin fish. Situated near the epicentre of marine life origin on the planet, Malapascua has an incredible diversity of life. Malapascua also has the Denise Pygmy Seahorse!
