On August 27th, we left Prudhoe Bay after staying the night at a trucker turnout. We had fueled up the night before with the 2nd most expensive gas in North American (USD 5.05/gal.) and were ready for the reverse journey back to Coldfoot over the potholed infested gravel Dalton Hwy. Gas at Coldfoot is the most expensive gas at USD 5.49/gal. The day was not as bright as going up there but the cloud-capped mountains of the Atigun Pass gave it a surreal atmosphere that is expected at this time of year. I had my eyes peeled for wildlife but alas none were to be found. Flat wetlands, pingos, ponds, migrating birds and snow-capped mountains were our eye candy for this trip.
