The photos on this webpage were taken in 1980 when I worked for Can-Dive Oceaneering in the Beaufort Sea. I did one month on and one month off for the summer that year. I flew to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, from Calgary by DC3. From there, I went to Tuktoyaktuk by Twin Otter and then to the drillship by helicopter. When I arrived, all four rigs were iced in from the winter. A path had to be broken by ice breakers for the drillships to get to their drilling locations. While iced in, I did a test dive under the drillship (under the ice) to test the hot water suit system that had been repaired recently (guinea pig). The following photos show the voyage breaking through the ice and the diving equipment on board the Canmar Explorer II.
