Nearby to the De-Na-Zin Wilderness (Bisti Badlands) is the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pa Wilderness Study Area. And just west of the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pa Wilderness Study Area is the Valley of Dreams Trail.
The name Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah comes from the Navajo words áshįįh łibá, which translates to “gray salt.” The gray rolling landscape resembles water frozen in time. The Valley of Dreams trail and nearby area is a geological wonderland with picturesque monuments like the Alien Throne and the King of Wings. The rolling landscape of badlands offers some of the most unusual scenery found in the Four Corners Region. It is on the Navajo Nation.
Weathered sandstone forms hoodoos – pinnacles, spires, cap rocks, and other unusual forms. The sedimentary rock also houses many fossils.
