Spanning east from Drumheller to the Saskatchewan border and south to the United States is home to the world’s largest deposits of dinosaur bones. The region is known as the Alberta Badlands.
Here you can discover hundreds of sandstone hoodoos while hiking the trails and see ancient rock art at “Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park.” You may even stumble across dinosaur bones yourself in any of the badlands trails. One of the best museums on dinosaurs can be found at Drumheller, the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology.
The photos on this page are of our journey along the Red Deer River from Drumheller to the Great Sand Hills of Saskatchewan during the fall when the trees and shrubs’ colours are popping.
